Susan Jositas- Dories at Low Tide, Oil, 20 x 24 inches, SOLD

Susan Jositas

A Connecticut artist with roots in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Susan spent most of her childhood painting and drawing. When she began painting full-time in 2000, she returned to the beautiful countryside and stone houses along the Delaware River, building a reputation as a Bucks County impressionist. Since then, her roots have spread. Susan enjoys the diversity of painting in her home state of Connecticut: the changing seasons, the farms and fields, the antique homes, the woodland and the shoreline.

Painting the landscape en plein air (out of doors) is a passion, whether it is in her garden, in the historical district where she lives or the destination of her travels. Having vacationed in Nantucket most of her adult life, she returns there several times a year to paint the moors, the cottages, the sands and the sea, bathed in a light unique to the island. In the studio, Susan’s subject matter incorporates more than landscape. Flowers are a favorite, and frequently the subject of the still life paintings that she is known for. Portraits and figures are part of her portfolio, as well. Most of Susan’s work is in oil, though she creates paintings in pastel as well.

Susan has received numerous awards, and considers herself to be in a lifelong pursuit of excellence as a painter. She has studied with a number of well-known painters. As a founding member of the High Street Painters, she travels to Brattleboro, Vermont twice a month to study portrait and figure painting with a group of like-minded artists.

Susan’s painting process combines technical skill with spiritual awareness. She says, “Painting requires being fully present in the moment. It is a gift to be able to see and experience things that are easily missed in the fast pace of life. I am grateful for this opportunity and want to share it through my work.” As a reiki master, Susan often brings an element of healing energy to her paintings. It is no surprise that collectors often describe her paintings as sensitive, calming or peaceful.

Susan is an artist member of the prestigious Salmagundi Club in New York City, where she exhibits her work regularly. Along with High Street Painters, she is a founding member of an exhibiting group with seven other Connecticut artists called the Pitkin Street Painters. Other professional affiliations include Oil Painters of America, Lyme Art Association, Connecticut Plein Air Painters, Madison Art Society, Society of Creative Arts of Newtown and the Connecticut Pastel Society.

Her painting, “The Yellow Lantern”, was included in the Richeson 75 Still Life and Floral 2013 publication. Recent accomplishments, exhibitions and awards include the following:
